Kara Smith - *Update - Surgery 6/27 at 8:30 am at UAMS main hospital floor 2. (6/27) Please pray for me and Blake as we struggle with this upcoming surgery. I am having a horrible time with the hormone treatment and its side effects. I am surrounded by stress and anxiety and I can’t sleep or stop crying. My ultrasound results raised additional concerns and my doctor wants to take a post surgery path that I am praying to avoid. I know that Paul was able to share the gospel on Malta because of the shipwreck and snake bite, I just didn’t know it would hurt so much to be in Paul’s shoes. Please pray for Blake as he struggles with processing his own emotions and mine. (6/21)

Ricky Ray - We just got the early results back from Mom’s surgery yesterday. They were able to take about 10 pounds of fluid off her belly, which has already made her feel a lot better. While they were in there, they also found a jelly-like substance they hadn’t seen on any of her scans (CT, ultrasound, PET). They removed it and sent it off for testing.
Her oncologist thinks that substance might be what’s causing the infection—or possibly even the cancer. That could explain why nothing’s shown up so far.
For now, she’s resting and feeling more comfortable, likely because of the fluid and mass being removed. We’re just waiting on those test results now.
Thanks for all your prayers and love. We’re trusting God through this—He’s still holding her, and us, in His hands. We’ll keep you posted. (6/18)
Ricky Ray - Today is a big day for mom. They have discovered a mass in her esophagus. Sometime today before lunch she will have a scope in hopes of getting it out.
Mom’s June 9 blood tests show her body is still fighting hard against the infection. Her white count and infection markers are high, which means the antibiotics are still needed. She also has moderate anemia, likely from her chronic illnesses. Her immune system is under strain, and her red blood cells are showing stress too, which may be due to her liver or kidney issues.
The good news is her platelets are fine, and doctors are watching her closely to manage this. We need to keep praying, and she’s definitely still in a battle—but we’re not without hope. (6/9)
Ricky Ray -Hi everyone—just wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on with Nanny Da, Shanova's mom, especially since many of you haven’t heard the details yet.
Shanova took her to the hospital on Monday due to increasing swelling, discomfort, and fatigue. Since then, she’s been through a lot, but we are thankful for good care and hopeful hearts.
Her underlying diagnosis is Stage 4 Kidney failure, Stage 4 Liver failure, and Congestive Heart Failure.
Yesterday, the doctors performed a paracentesis and removed six pounds of fluid from her abdomen. That brought her a lot of relief—she said she feels less tight and more comfortable. The fluid was green in color, which raised concern for infection, so it’s being tested now.
She also had an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), but we haven’t received those results yet. What we do know is that she has a bacterial infection in her bloodstream, and because she has a pacemaker, the cardiologist is watching closely to make sure the infection hasn’t attached to the pacemaker leads. That’s why they’re doing frequent blood draws—to keep a close eye on things.
They’ve started her on two antibiotics—one broad-spectrum and another added as a precaution while waiting for more targeted results. We asked about a PICC line for long-term IV access, and the doctor said they’d like to avoid that for now unless her condition requires it.
Today has been another busy day of tests, labs, and doctor visits, but we’re grateful—this is exactly why she’s there. Shanova and Papa T are taking turns staying with her overnight. Although there’s still uncertainty, there is also peace. Nanny Da is alert, talking, and in good spirits.
We would deeply appreciate your continued prayers—specifically:
• That the infection clears quickly
• That her heart and pacemaker remain unaffected
• That the antibiotics are effective
• That her strength continues to grow
A Scripture we’re holding onto is Isaiah 41:10 (CSB):
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
That’s our hope and our anchor right now.

Brenda Palm - Pray for my cousin Karen from Denver. Her tumors in a side by side comparison are much smaller than when she started treatment. The Doctor wants to stay with same meds. She will have this rest of her life. Scheduling radioactive treatment mid June. She will receive two shots and be on a no iodine diet two weeks before that treatment. Surgery is not an option. Teri Crofford - Please pray for Jan Childers, my sister in law. She is 65 years old, she has Parkinson’s and MSA (multiple system atrophy). She was admitted to the hospital Apr 5-11, 2025. Then again today (04-19-25). Jan hasn’t been able to walk, talk, or any other functions for awhile. They put a feeding tube in approx 04-10-25 because she cannot swallow. She has a hole in her behind, (not sure what caused it). My nieces have been caring for her at home. When she came home from the hospital on 04-11-25, the hole had turned green, now it is black. She is possibly septic and they have told the family they need to start making decisions. (4/18)

Teri Crofford - Please pray for Jan Childers, my sister in law. She is 65 years old, she has Parkinson’s and MSA (multiple system atrophy). She was admitted to the hospital Apr 5-11, 2025. Then again today (04-19-25). Jan hasn’t been able to walk, talk, or any other functions for awhile. They put a feeding tube in approx 04-10-25 because she cannot swallow. She has a hole in her behind, (not sure what caused it). My nieces have been caring for her at home. When she came home from the hospital on 04-11-25, the hole had turned green, now it is black. She is possibly septic and they have told the family they need to start making decisions. (4/18)

A couple weeks ago she found out that the chemo was working and they were switching her to maintenance medication.
